Divorce Solicitors

We understand that the process of divorce or separation is often a very unsettling and distressing time, which is why it is crucial to be guided through the process by an experienced professional.

At Taylor Fordyce, our focus is on you and our specialist advice is tailored to the needs of each individual client. We have vast experience in a broad spectrum of cases, ranging from those involving modest assets to high net worth individuals.

We can help support and guide you through the difficult and stressful process of separation and divorce. We can also assist in advising and preparing a Separation Agreement if suitable for your circumstances.

We will ensure that you will be properly represented and understand the divorce process, including exactly what you need to do, how long things are likely to take and the costs involved.

Our divorce solicitors believe in keeping matters amicable and non-confrontational wherever possible and are able to resolve most divorce-related matters without the need for court proceedings. This not only avoids unnecessary conflict, it is also normally faster and less costly as well.

We have local teams in Winchester, Sunningdale, Alresford and London, allowing us to offer a convenient local service for clients across Hampshire, Berkshire and the South East.

Our divorce solicitors’ hourly rates

For the more complex aspects of divorce, such as negotiating financial settlement, we will typically charge according to an hourly rate.

This means we will provide exactly as much support as you need to achieve your objective, with all billable work agreed in advance, so you always stay in control of the costs involved.

Deferred divorce fees

Where appropriate, we may be able to defer our fees until after you have reached a financial settlement and have the funds available to cover your legal costs.

Divorce FAQs

What are the grounds for divorce?

The rules around divorce are changing, with ‘no fault’ divorce due to be introduced from autumn 2021 under the terms of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020. This means couples will be able to choose to end their marriage without needing to provide a reason.

Under the existing rules, there is only one ground for divorce and that is the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. Once you have been married for one year you will need to evidence this by one of five facts:

  1. Adultery
  2. Unreasonable behaviour
  3. 2 years separation with consent
  4. 2 years desertion
  5. 5 years separation

Civil partnerships can be dissolved after one year on the same grounds of irretrievable breakdown. One key difference from divorce is that adultery cannot be used as a reason for this breakdown in civil partnership dissolution. We are pleased to be able to offer a fixed fee for a basic divorce.  Please see our divorce fixed fee fact sheet.

How long does it take to get divorced?

This will depend on the circumstances, but around 4 to 6 months is typical for straightforward, uncontested divorces.
